The jolly boat lay alongside the quay steps in the water and both tapped and swore as they descended and got aboard. Ben stilt unshipped the oars and pushed off.

“John— Sawn off,” said he quietly. “Keep mum till we ‘alfway out, don’t want anyone hearin’”.

Halfway out on the calm harbour water Ben said “Glad to ‘ve ‘e aboard shipmates. Ship’s all vitualled and ready to leave on the evening tide”

“Did toothless Davey make it?” asked “Sawn Off”.

“That ‘e did”, said Ben. “Good to see ‘im again, as it is yorn two. Toothless be the same……..still as toothless as ever Ha Ha.” Toothless Davey was the finest sea cook they had come across, and was always taken aboard when Capt. Blackbeard was sailing.

“Why all the hurry this time?” said Tappin’ John. “I was sent a letter, so was ole Jonesy ’ere. We never got letters before…..ever ...........
